Brazil plans to formulate key and strategic mineral policies

According to BNAmericas, the Brazilian government is formulating a development strategy for critical and strategic minerals, focusing on improving the business environment. Recently, the Ministry of Mines and Energy met with representatives from the Brazilian trade and investment promotion agency, ApexBrazil, to discuss a plan aimed at enhancing the country's status in the global critical and strategic minerals market. "Critical and strategic minerals are essential for advancing energy transitions and developing new technologies. Our goal is not just mineral extraction, but also to create conditions for Brazil to become a center for industrialization, innovation, and added value," said Ana Paula Bittencourt, State Secretary for Geology, Mining, and Mineral Processing at the Ministry of Mines and Energy. Gustavo Masili, the commissioner responsible for strategic minerals and energy transition, revealed that the Brazilian government intends to develop a national policy for critical and strategic minerals by the end of 2025 to ensure energy transition and food security. This policy involves geological mapping, licensing priorities, financial support, workforce training, infrastructure development, and attracting international investment.
